Who are we looking for
Hangar 13 (2K Czech) is looking for a university student, recent graduate, or an aspiring creator passionate about game development, filmmaking, production, or audio engineering. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our Motion Capture team during an exciting, high-frequency production phase! You will gain hands-on experience in a world-class studio environment. You will play a crucial role in supporting our Mocap schedule. If you are looking for a flexible, dynamic role where you can help bring next-generation games to life while working alongside industry experts, we want to hear from you!
Position Overview
The Motion Capture Stage Technician is a vital hybrid role that bridges physical hardware operations on the studio floor with real-time digital environments. This position focuses on two core pillars: managing high-fidelity facial capture systems (Head-Mounted Cameras) for talent, and supporting the real-time virtual production pipeline (loading game geometry and operating virtual cameras). Ideal for tech-savvy students or recent graduates pursuing careers in Technical Art, Virtual Production, or Mocap Engineering, this role offers direct exposure to cutting-edge game development workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Facial Capture & HMC Management
- Set up, calibrate, and adjust Head-Mounted Cameras (HMCs) and facial capture hardware tailored to each individual actor's facial structure.
- Facilitate and monitor facial Range of Motion (ROM) calibration sequences for talent prior to shooting.
- Conduct continuous visual quality checks during rehearsals and live takes to ensure helmets have not shifted, slipped, or lost alignment.
- Actively monitor hardware performance during live streams, immediately notifying the technical team of any frame drops, signal degradation, or technical anomalies.
Real-Time Engine & Virtual Production Support
- Load, configure, and manage 3D environment geometry (geo) within the studio's real-time engine platform prior to and during capture sessions.
- Assist the stage crew with physical prop setup, ensuring physical objects on the volume are precisely aligned and calibrated with the corresponding virtual geometry from the game.
- Operate the real-time virtual camera (VCam) system, allowing directors and producers to view live, engine-integrated pre-visualizations of the performance.
Requirements & Skills
- Tech-savvy mindset with a basic understanding of 3D spaces, coordinates, and real-time engine concepts (experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, MotionBuilder, or Maya is a significant asset).
- Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills (essential for spotting minor shifts in actor gear or digital frame drops).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm demeanor when troubleshooting hardware/software under fast-paced studio conditions.
- Professional proficiency in English and Czech (or Slovak) to ensure clear communication between the technical crew, developers, and production.
